SHSC is now HSC

Posted on December 29, 2011 by HSC

On January 1, 2012, the operating environment for Ontario’s housing sector changed as the Housing Services Act came into force. Part of this change is that the Social Housing Services Corporation (SHSC) is now the Housing Services Corporation (HSC).

To meet changing sector needs, HSC’s priority in 2012 is to seek feedback from our clients and stakeholders on how we fulfill our mandate in the future. Our goal is to be locally relevant, partnership-focused, responsive and flexible:

  • Through consultations, we will take stock of the programs we’ve delivered over the past 10 years as SHSC – programs that we will still be responsible for – assessing whether they need to be improved to meet future needs
  • Insurance will be our first step in this process with consultations on the group program taking place in January and February
  • On May 28-29, 2012, we will host and facilitate an event on social housing regeneration for Service Managers, Local Housing Corporations and large housing providers. These groups have told us that regeneration is an important area for them these days and our session will provide tools and resources to help revitalize buildings and communities.
  • Towards improving communication with our clients on an ongoing basis, we will also be reviewing our existing working groups, adding new groups where necessary and have appointed new HSC regional representatives so you can better reach us. Your regional representative will be contacting you shortly with details on how they can help you.

We encourage you to connect with us over the course of this exciting year – your participation will shape the design of our programs and help us build a healthy housing system together.
